On the 12th
of may 1986 19 climbers started climbing mount hood in America at 3 am. During
the accent 6 members turned back early because of illness or exhaustion. The
other climbers climbed to above 3000m level. Around 3 pm they had to turn because
due to poor weather conditions. They took the decision the sleep over on the
mountain so started to dig a snow cave for protection. The next day 2 members
of the party went down the mountain to summon help. On the 14 th may, the
search party found 3 climbers frozen to death and the other 8 members of the
party were found on the 15 th of may in a snow cave. Only 2 of the 8 members found
alive. 3 of the 4 survivors had life- threatening hypothermia and one had to
have their legs amputated.
